HOME OF THE SINGING PALADIN
(I shall endeavour to remember to give brief explanations of
EQ terms on this page for anyone reading it who has never played the game.)
Welcome to my Everquest (or, Evercrack as it is commonly known) page. A pusher, I mean, friend of mine bought me a copy of this game in December of 2000 and convinced me to try it out. Now, I had been resisting the urge to play this game ever since it's original release due to my experience with MUDs (Multi-User Dungeons - these were the text based predecessors of Everquest) in college - I knew how addicted I could get to this type of game. But, I broke down and started playing - and, well, I have been playing ever since. DAoC was fun to mess around with but I am back to EQ full time and have once again expanded on the number of characters I am playing: Thanoslug Barukhazad - a Dwarven Paladin of Brell Serilis and a member of the guild Giliath Lang, Drallop Semaj - a Dwarven Cleric of Brell Serilis who is also a member of Giliath Lang, and Thrakath - a Vah Shir Beastlord, all on the PvP server Vallon Zek.
Now, Thanoslug has come to be known as the Singing Paladin by his guildmates due to my penchant for song both in the game and on the guild message boards. I have decided to collect my EQ song efforts here so that I dont lose them. So, without further ado, here are the songs (at the bottom there is also a link to a Christmas Roleplay that my friend Taliaferro wrote):
Everquest: This was the first song I wrote about Everquest shortly after I joined Giliath Lang. I was unable to find it on the message boards when I decided to write this page and so I have attempted to recreate it here.
Ode to an Axe: This song was inspired by the roleplay story 'Final Reward' written by my good friend and guildmate, Taliaferro Erucolindo. The version here includes a few verses that were not in the posted version.
Rekus the Barb Rake Wielder: Another song inspired by a roleplay written by a guildmember (the talented and beautiful Lacka Wolvespride). I'll probably archive the inspiring story for this song as well - or I would have but this was on the same board as the 'Final Journey' roleplay and has shared it's fate..
The GL Dies Tonight: This song has never been posted to the guild boards but I thought I would include it here because, hey, it's my page and it amuses me to do so. I have turned it into a complete song rather than just the snippet that was sung online at the time and I have included a very brief alternate version.
Song for Lacka: I came up with this one while waiting for a guild meeting to start. It is an accounting in song of how Lacka and Rekus may have first met.
Return of Kiren: I did not actually come up with this song at all. I am a fan of Celtic music and while listening to this song one day it struck me that it would make a good welcome home song for Kiren - a well respected guild member who had left the game for RL (that's real life) reasons several months before. (the 'Final Reward' roleplay mentioned above was about his departure) He later returned to us as is told in the story 'The Emissary'.
Speed Laxen: This was something Soaren and I started singing one day when trying to follow Laxen through Velious when we had SoW (a spell called Spirit of Wolf that increases your movement speed) and he had Selo's Accelerando (a bard spell that's a bit faster than SoW it seems). This is another song that has not made it to the guild message boards.
Feeling Groovy: I came up with this one while driving to work one morning on a day when the guild was planning to raid the Ry'Gorr Orc fort in the Eastern Wastes of Velious. I had just heard Simon & Garfunkles song Feeling Groovy and this EQ version just started spinning itself out in my head.
Dreadlands Bound: Well, I was sitting in the Great Divide Dragon Circle trying to bum a port to the Dreadlands so I could hook up with Rekus in preparation for a raid and, well, inpiration struck...
Verant Did a Bad Bad Thing: I came up with this one while HECK (an alliance of guilds to which my guild belongs) was camping Ragefire for the cleric epic - a case of inspiration while driving home from work and listening to the radio.
Thrack-Man's Swords: Thrack, leader of the guild The Last Humble House, one of the member guilds of the HECK Alliance, has had it in for me for some time (he enjoys killing short races - the fiend). He threatens to kill me a lot, especially now that I am finally in his range - so I wrote this song for the blood-thirsty bugger.
End the Raid: A little song about raiding.
Aran o Erain: No song here, this is a roleplay that my friend Taliaferro wrote for the Christmas of 2001.
